Counting by Julia DonaldsonLast Tuesday, 6 December, Ballymun Baby Book Club had lots of fun with numbers and counting using the book Counting from the book series Tales from Acorn Wood by author, Julia Donaldson and illustrator, Axel Scheffler.  Maria taught the group a new rhyme entitled ‘I Can Count’ to complement the story.

There are lots of ways to incorporate counting in children’s routines such as:

(a) Counting food (cheerios, grapes)
(b) Climbing stairs
(c) When your child is swinging in the park
(d) How many books you borrow from the Library!

It’s fun and good preparation for when they eventually start school!

That's not my lionSome weeks ago, the Baby Book Club was introduced to a lovely series of books entitled ‘That’s Not My...’.  The publisher, Usborne, produces a variety of colourful board books aimed at very young children.  Each page of these books contains bright pictures and patches with different textures.  The book series is designed to develop sensory and language awareness.  They are perfect for reading to babies and toddlers when you’re at home, out and about and at bedtime.  Next week, we will read That’s Not my Lion.  We will also learn a new song entitled ‘I’m a Lion’ which is sung to the tune ‘Three Blind Mice’.

Lulu Loves StoriesToddler Book Club

Our book choice for last week was Lulu Loves Stories by Anna McQuinn and Rosalind Beardshaw.  This is a beautiful story about the fun Lulu experiences picking out different stories when she visits the Library.  Each book Lulu borrows contains great ideas for playing which she acts out with her family and friends.  A great story about how books inspire young imaginations!!

Bears on the Stairs by Julia Jarman by Julia Jarman and Lynne Chapman will be read next week.  This is another fabulous tale about a little boy who uses his imagination as a way to avoid going to bed! It is a nice, funny story which is ideal for a child’s bedtime.  We will sing ‘Little Bear’ which goes to the tune of ‘Frere Jacques’ to accompany the story.

Our final session for both book clubs will be on Tuesday, 20 December.  Join us for plenty of festive fun as we dust off our Santa hats and Christmas jumpers and enjoy plenty of Christmas craic!  The book clubs will take a break until Tuesday, 10 January 2017.

See you next week.  New members welcome!!

P.S. Check out some of the other books read by Baby Book Club and books read by Toddler Book Club.
