Keeping up with Library News

Library NewsLots of things happen in Dublin City Public Libraries - easy to believe when you realise that we are the largest library service in the Republic of Ireland.  As the largest, we serve a resident population of over half a million people, to which you can add the many others who may also avail of our many services - the regular commuters from surrounding regions, the large third-level student population and the many visitors to our capital city from further afield. We deliver our services via some 41 service points, this number being made up of 21 branch libraries a number of specialist service points and those locations visited on a regular basis by our mobile library service. Did you know too that we provide a library service to the Irish Prison Service on an agency basis? To put some final numbers to it, there were 2.7 million library visits in 2012 (not including some 0.9 million virtual visits) and over 2.5 million items loaned out.

Anne Frank and YouThis year has been a particularly active year in terms of organised events happening across our branch libraries, and elsewhere too. Just recently we had the hugely successful Festival of History programme, with some of the showcase events taking place in Dublin Castle. Presently we have the Start Your Own Business programme and the Crime in the City talks, both in the Central Library, the weekly lunchtime lectures in City Hall, the Rathmines 100th anniversary programme, and upcoming will be the "Anne Frank [ + You }" exhibition in the Dublin City Library & Archive. And so many more organised events besides!

So be sure on a regular basis to check our Library Blog and our listing of organised events!
