The Testament of Mary

The Man Booker shortlist of six titles has just been announced and includes The Testament of Mary by Irish author Colm Tóibín. The other five titles on the shortlist are:

'The Testament of Mary' Book Description: "In a voice that is both tender and filled with rage, 'The Testament of Mary' tells the story of a cataclysmic event which led to an overpowering grief. For Mary, her son has been lost to the world, and now, living in exile and in fear, she tries to piece together the memories of the events that led to her son's brutal death."

The longlist of 13 titles was announced back in July and included books by two other Irish authors, Colm McCann and Donal Ryan.

Colm Tóibín, who has been shortlisted on two previous occasions for the Booker, won the Costa Novel Award in 2011 for his novel 'Brooklyn'.

The winner will be announced on the 15th October. The 2012 winning novel was 'Bring Up the Bodies' by Hilary Mantel.
