Notes from Underground

Printer-friendly version

Rathmines basement booksRathmines Library staff are digging deep to let their readers know about some of the great books hidden in the library basement! Readers may not be aware that there is a whole floor of books stored below the library – though they may have seen “Basement” marked in bright yellow letters on some of the books they have requested.

This section is not open to the public, but it is where we keep the books that are not borrowed every day – or indeed every month. This includes classics, books of particular Irish interest and in many cases the last copy of a book held in the Dublin City Libraries.  Since the beginning of August though, many of these books have been brought up for air and put on display in the main library as part of our NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND exhibition. The display is an eclectic one, with the writers featured ranging from Maurice Walsh to Hubert Butler, and has proved very popular with our readers.

So pop into Rathmines Library this August and see what we've uncovered!
