In 2013 136 book clubs attached to Dublin City Libraries enjoyed and discussed 454 different books!

Most popular titles were the 2013 Dublin: One City One Book choice Strumpet City by James Plunkett; City of Bohane by Kevin Barry - the winner of the 2013 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award; The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes and Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese.

Anne Tyler, Graham Greene, Nora Roberts and Ian McEwan were the most popular authors.

 The Fault in Our Stars by John GreenThe Paris Wife by Pauline McLainThe Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

Dublin book clubs proved keen to explore the literary canon as well as the latest book club must read like Gone Girl, The Night Circus, The Fault in Our Stars, The Paris Wife and The Light Between Oceans. Among the classics tackled this year were:

 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte  Crime and Punishment by Fyodor DostoevskyJane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte


Crime Fiction is as popular as ever. Here's just a few of the crime books that kept book clubbers up at night!:

Moving away from fiction, our readers explored the lives of others reading biographies and autobiographies of Nelson Mandela, Mary McAleeseJohn Lonergan, Iris Murdoch and Andre Agassi.

The inaugural Dublin Festival of History and the decade of commemorations certainly seem to have influenced the choice of reading material in Dublin. Here are some history reads, non-fiction and fiction that our readers enjoyed this year:
