Touch-type Read and Spell - Online Computer Course

Printer-friendly version

TTRSThe Central Library, Ilac Centre, is currently offering Touch-type Read and Spell (TTRS), an online computer course. As well as developing typing skills, TTRS is designed to benefit students of all ages who experience spelling, reading or writing difficulties. Students with dyslexia or literacy issues have found it helpful. This is a multisensory, structured, online course which assists students to learn at their own pace either in the library or at home. The Central Library has a number of licences available free to library users.

Gillian Harris of the National Adult Literacy Agency ( NALA) comments:

"NALA's Distance Learning Service is a free service where learners study online by themselves or work with tutors over the phone. A number of our distance learners have used Touch-type Read and Spell (TTRS) to work on their spelling. The learners enjoy using the resource and there is great flexibility in that they can choose when and how often they use it."

"The availability of the TTRS learning tool from Dublin City Public Libraries is an important socially inclusive development and one which will assist a range of learners. It is also relevant in the context of the Right to Read national initiative which aims to greatly enhance literacy levels throughout the country. This initiative is being delivered by local authorities through a nationally coordinated framework for literacy support and development." Margaret Hayes, Dublin City Librarian.
