Get a taste of track cycling on the world’s only pop up velodrome

Pop up velodrome comes to Smithfield Square for 3 days of FREE family fun

Dublin City Council presents StreetVelodrome Dublin City, as part of National Bike Week 2018, from next Thursday 14th June to Saturday 16th June in Smithfield Square, Dublin 7. This free 3-day family friendly event will include live entertainment, music, kids’ activities, special guest appearances and great cycle sport entertainment!

Sarah Scannell, Cycling Officer for Dublin City Council, speaking at the launch of StreetVelodrome Dublin City, commented "Dublin City Council is delighted to kick off Bike Week 2018 with this exciting cycling event. We encourage people of all ages and abilities to come to down to Smithfield Square this weekend to cycle on the pop up velodrome, observe the race fun, cheer for the Dublin teamand enjoy the lively street entertainment.

On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th June, StreetVelodrome Dublin City will be open to schools and the general public. Cycling enthusiasts are invited to come along to Smithfield Square and test out their skills on the velodrome which will be open from 3pm to 6pm - no booking required! Bikes, helmets and professional coaching will all be provided free of charge.

On Saturday, 16th June, Dublin will host the next round of the Viking Pro StreetVelodrome Series, a touring competition which sees professional riders competing for gold, silver and bronze medals at events held across the UK and Ireland. Spectators are encouraged to come along and cheer on Team Dublin in the professional race at 1pm.

Amateur cyclists of all ages are also invited to participate in competitions running throughout the day. These races are FREE to participate in with equipment and professional coaching provided, but spaces must be booked in advance – visit www.streetvelodrome.co.uk.

The televised race day on Saturday in Smithfield Square will be accompanied by family entertainment including the Wobbly Circus’ colourful street performers, face painting, balloon modelling and a cycling village where cyclists can pick up bike care tips.

The Dublin City StreetVelodrome is a precursor to Velo-city 2019, the global cycling summit, which is returning to Dublin in June next year.
