Voice your opinion on Dublin’s social scene by 31st July

Dublin City Council launches the second ‘Your Dublin Your Voice’ survey today. You have until 31st July to give your views on Dublin’s social scene - on everything from going to the pub, to shopping, to telling us about your favourite things to do.

Dublin City Council’s Research Manager Jamie Cudden says “This second survey asks about your views on Dublin’s social scene. How do you like to spend your time in Dublin? Do you like shopping in the city?  Do you like to spend your free time in the city centre or the suburbs? Do you think it’s expensive to go out in Dublin compared to a year ago? These are issues everybody has an opinion on and ‘Your Dublin Your Voice’ is giving you a chance to express them.”

Completing the survey is easy and only takes five minutes. To join the survey: www.yourdublinyourvoice.ie

‘Your Dublin Your Voice’ seeks the views of people who live, work, study or visit the Dublin region. Almost 2,300 people took part in the first survey. Participants can win prizes such as helicopters tours of the city, scenic bus tours, and walking tours.

Notes to Editor

What is ‘Your Dublin Your Voice’?: It’s the first local government-led opinion panel in Ireland. Dublin City Council carries out the survey with support from the other Dublin local authorities. It seeks the views of people who live, work, study or visit the Dublin Region. Almost 2,300 people, representing all ages and backgrounds, over 60 nationalities and every county in Ireland, replied to the survey between October and December 2010.

Prizes: Complete the second Your Dublin Your Voice’ survey and be in with a chance to win one of two exclusive Dublin helicopter tours for two with Irish helicopters. You and a friend could be flying over the Wicklow Mountains, Dublin Bay and the City Centre this summer! This time you also have the chance to win one of 10 pairs of tickets for Dublin Bus scenic tours of the city (which are valid for the ghost bus tours, coastal tours and sightseeing tours). There are also 15 pairs of tickets for a walking tour of Dublin with Pat Liddy walking tours where you will explore the hidden secrets of medieval and Georgian Dublin.

First survey results: People felt Dublin is a great place to live in (88%), a welcoming place (77%), a city of unique character (86%) and a place with lots to see and do (83%). However, 36% of respondents had concerns about anti social behaviour, drugs and begging in the city.

Your Voice drives action: A unique feature of ‘Your Dublin Your Voice’ is the action focus on addressing the issues raised. Having distributed the results of the survey each quarter the Local Authorities promised to hold a “hear it, debate it, change it” Action Workshop where findings will be communicated to stakeholders and decision makers. They will then identify actions that could address the issues raised or deliver on the ideas offered in the survey. Details on the first workshop will be available shortly.
