The Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague congratulates the Dublin Senior Football Team, the new 2011 All Ireland Champions.

The Lord Mayor said, “It is a day that will go down in Dublin’s GAA history due to the heroic efforts of this year’s gallant team under the leadership of their Bainisteoir Pat Gilroy and Captain Bryan Cullen. Dublin overcame Kerry today and lifted the Sam Maguire for the 23rdtime.  It’s their seventh time to beat Kerry, staunch rivals for decades, in the final.”

“On behalf of all Dubliners, I wish to pay tribute to the Dublin Senior Footballers for the battling qualities, skill, hunger for victory and bravery they have shown, not just today, but throughout the championship. It is great to see the Sam Maguire back in Dublin after 16 years”, the Lord Mayor added and invited supporters to greet the team in Merrion Square on Monday 19th September at 7.00 pm.


Public Celebration Event – to welcome Sam Maguire to Dublin

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague and the Dublin County Board of the GAA, are hosting an event on Monday 19th September to celebrate the crowning of the Dublin Senior Football Team, as All Ireland Champions 2011. The event will give Dublin supporters a chance to congratulate the team who will have the Sam Maguire Cup on view.

  • Where: Merrion Square
  • When: Monday 19th September
  • Time: The events will start at at 7.00 pm and will conclude at 8.00 pm
  • Access to the event will be available from 6.00 pm
  • Access to the event will be via Merrion Square East, Merrion Square South or Fitzwilliam Street Lower.
  • This is a family event so no alcohol will be allowed to be consumed at the event
  • People attending this event are advised to use public transport.
