Winner Announced for Competition to Design a new Library Card

The Lord Mayor Paul Mc Auliffe and City Librarian Mairead Owens were in Cabra Library this morning to announce the winner of the competition to design a new library card for Dublin City Libraries.

The competition was organised as part of the Lord Mayor’s initiative to encourage 4th class pupils to join their local branch library. The winning entry was designed by Aleksandra Czyz who attends the nearby Mary Help of Christian GNS in Cabra. Aleksandra will receive a prize of a Kindle Fire and her newly designed card will be included in a welcome pack to be delivered to all schools across the city.

The Lord Mayor said “I am delighted to announce the winner of the new Dublin City Libraries children’s library card which was designed by Aleksandra Czyz. This card will be used by children across the city for many years to come and will be available in libraries from March. It is part of my initiative with the City Libraries to invite all 4th class children to join their local library. I hope 4th class from Mary Help of Christian’s GNS will lead the way, so I encourage all of you to “Join Up and Join In.”

Mairead Owens, Dublin City Librarian, added, “I invite all 4th class children in the Dublin City area to join their local library. As part of a welcome pack 4th class children will be given a library membership form including the newly designed ticket.  Joining is easy and everything is free. Our libraries are fun, creative spaces in local communities, and I invite children and families to celebrate our libraries together. “
