Winning Entries Announced for Dublin Fire Brigade Fire Safety Calendar 2016

An tArdmhéara Críona Ní Dhálaigh and Chief Fire Officer Patrick Fleming were in the Mansion House this morning to present prizes to twelve lucky Dublin students for their winning pictures which are featured in the 2016 “Dublin Fire Brigade Fire Safety Calendar.”

Dublin Fire Brigade, as part of Fire Safety Week, invited all the primary school children in the Dublin region to participate in an art competition with the aim of increasing fire safety awareness among young people. The twelve best “fire safety” pictures were used to create the calendar which will be sent to all Dublin Primary Schools for display.

An tArdmhéara said, “Getting children thinking about fire hazards and putting those thoughts into pictures encourages them to be aware of the possible dangers around them. Congratulations to the students whose entries will appear in the 2016 Dublin Fire Brigade Fire Safety Calendar.  Tá súil agam go mbeidh Nollaig shona agus sábháilte agaibh.’’

Chief Fire Officer Pat Fleming said, “There was a great response to the competition and we would like to thank all those that took part. With Christmas approaching it is important to be aware of the extra hazards that occur at this time of the year. Dublin Fire Brigade would like to wish you all a Safe and Happy Christmas”

Dublin Fire Brigade would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to be Safe at Christmas by

Checking your Smoke Alarm is working
Unplugging Christmas tree lights at night
Only using candles in proper holders, keeping them away from curtains and extinguishing them at night or when leaving the room
Have an ‘Escape’ plan for you, your family and visitors
