Dublin Otter Survey

As part of Dublin City Council’s commitment to biodiversity across the city, a new 2-year extensive survey for otters has revealed nearly 200 signs of otters in the city’s largest rivers and coastline.

The study, commissioned by the Parks department as part of its Biodiversity Action Plan (2015-2020), was conducted by Triturus Environmental Ltd. who looked at the presence of otters by recording otter ‘field’ signs.  The results of this survey have significantly expanded the baseline knowledge of otter populations within the city boundary and will better inform the management and conservation requirements for otter (which is protected under the EU Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC as an Annex II and Annex IV species).
