Lunchtime Seminar: The Irish Revolution 1916-1923

Online Event 

This twelve part free history lecture series on the Irish Revolution will examine the key events and personalities from the 1916-1923 era and be presented in an accessible manner.

Commencing on Wednesday 14 April - Wednesday 30 June at 1pm. Each lecture will be approx. 30 minutes in length followed by discussion based on relevant primary source documents.

By the end of the course, participants will understand the key events in Ireland’s pursuit of independence during the period and have a strong knowledge of relevant sources.

The lecture titles are as follows: 

The Easter Rising
After the Rising and the Battle of the Somme
The Conscription Crisis and the end of World War One
The Rise of Sinn Féin and the 1918 General Election

The First Dáil Éireann
The Irish War of Independence: Part 1 (1919)
The Irish War of Independence: Part 2 (1920)
The Irish War of Independence: Part 3 (1921)

After the Treaty
The 1922 Free State Election and IRA Conventions
The Irish Civil War: Part 1 (1922)
The Irish Civil War: Part 2 (1922-23)

Dr. James Curry will deliver the lecture series. Dr. Curry is a Dublin City Council Historian in Residence (North West Area). He holds an M.Phil in Modern Irish History from Trinity College Dublin and was awarded a PhD by NUI Galway in 2017 for his thesis on the Irish labour press. The lecture series is suitable for adults with an interest in modern Irish history. Places are limited to enable greater engagement and discussion. To book email: [email protected]
