The Lord Mayor’s Certificate in Oral History will be offered by Dublin City Council as part of its commitment to life-long learning.
The course will equip participants with skills in the preparation and conduct of oral history projects, including best practice in the collection and archiving of oral history interviews. It examines the wealth of recorded oral narrative sources in Ireland in both oral history and folklore.
The course consists of 70 hours part-time from November 2022 to April 2023. This comprises 50 hours of online or class-based tuition, and 20 hours of field trips, practice and reflection sessions outside the classroom.
Commencing in November 2022, the Lord Mayor’s Certificate in Oral History will be taught in the Conference Room in Dublin City Library & Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2, with two visits to archive services. All meetings/visits will be conducted according to public health guidelines.
Classes will be held from 5.30 to 8.00pm on Monday evenings.

The fee is €550, payable to Dublin City Council via online payment link (provided following application). The course is subsidised by Dublin City Council; fees charged are essential to cover teaching expenses. Dublin City Council offers two Bursaries for candidates taking the Lord Mayor’s Certificate in Oral Studies and closing date for bursary applications is 5pm on Friday, 14 October 2022.
