Dublin City Council would like to congratulate the 3 Dublin City winners at last night’s IPB Pride of Place Awards 2023. Raheny Village and the District 7 Community Alliance were the national winners in their categories and Inchicore Village also won a special award. The winners of the competition across the island of Ireland were announced at a gala Awards ceremony hosted by Dublin City Council, in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin last night.

The IPB Pride of Place awards is an annual competition organised by peacebuilding charity Co-operation Ireland and sponsored by IPB Insurance and this year is the 20th anniversary of the awards formation.

The awards are an All-Island competition whereby local authorities from across the island of Ireland nominate groups in their communities who they feel have made a significant contribution to improving their neighbourhood, working collectively.

Raheny Village won top spot in the Category Urban Neighbourhood/ Villages over 3000. Raheny Village is a volunteer organisation which works to protect and to improve the environment of Raheny for the benefit of the residents of Raheny and visitors to the village.

The judges noted, “This urban village was presented as a welcoming place, proud of what it has to offer and a community that cares for its environment and is working to address climate change.”

The District 7 Community Alliance won in the Category Community Resilience. The alliance represents all residents’ groups in the Blessington Street and Berkeley Road areas in Dublin 7, and they’ve been very active in planting flowers and arranging regular clean-ups.

The judges commented, “The many laudable activities range from litter management to festivals and a posse of volunteers have been mobilizing the community and building on people’s undoubted love of place.”

The judges gave out five Special Awards in respect of entries whose work deserves recognition. Inchicore Village won the special award for an urban district. The group is comprised of Inchicore residents who are interested in improving the appearance of their area.

The judges noted, “A wonderful example of what can be achieved when a dedicated group of volunteers come together to deliver a great community asset.”

Congratulations to all three fantastic Dublin City Community Groups.

ENDS
