Dublin City Council supports “Better Ballymun” Day of Action 2026
Published on 4th March 2026
Dublin City Council is proud to support this year’s Better Ballymun Day, taking place on Friday, 6 March 2026, and led by the students of Trinity Comprehensive School.
As part of the UN Year of the Volunteer, students will take part in a wide range of hands‑on community projects including painting, planting, and environmental clean‑ups. Their goal is simple yet ambitious: to strengthen community spirit and help build a Ballymun that everyone can be proud of.
Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Ray McAdam welcomed this year’s event, stating, “Better Ballymun Day is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with pride, purpose, and ambition. The dedication shown by the students of Trinity Comprehensive is truly inspiring. Their leadership demonstrates how young people can drive meaningful change, strengthen local connections, and help create a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Ballymun. I warmly encourage residents, organisations, and community groups to join today’s Day of Action and to continue supporting one another throughout the year.”
Now in its sixth consecutive year, Better Ballymun has become a cornerstone of positive civic engagement in the area, encouraging residents to maintain and enhance their environment throughout the year. The idea was originally developed by Trinity Comprehensive students, who envisioned a day where the entire community could come together to contribute in their own way.
In the lead‑up to the event, students have been actively engaging with residents and organisations, coordinating projects, encouraging participation, and promoting sustainability, social inclusion, and active citizenship. These values sit at the heart of Trinity Comprehensive’s ethos and align strongly with the International Year of Volunteers.
Supported by Ballymun Tidy Towns and Dublin City Council, the school has reached out to local clubs, churches, community groups, organisations, and businesses to join the Day of Action. Each group is invited to contribute their skills, resources, and enthusiasm to help make the initiative a success.
Dublin City Council supports this great community initiative by providing equipment for the clean-up, free of charge, and all bags are collected by the Council on the day. Our community and public domain staff are out assisting in many of the great actions on the day. ‘Better Ballymun Day’ is supported by Ballymun Tidy Towns and Dublin City Council.
