With 25 speakers, 4 panel discussions, a keynote speech, and 300 registered attendees; the Summit considered how to reset and build back a better Dublin following the COVID-19 global pandemic and subsequent economic crisis.

The Summit series has a strong track record for providing a valuable platform to exchange ideas on the future of Dublin city and region. These conversations allow us to not only reflect on the priorities of the day but to critically analyse the challenges that lie ahead. This has never been more important than in today’s environment.

This year’s summit was a collaboration between Dublin City Council and the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation; and the Dublin Regional Enterprise Action Plan. In line with Level 5 restrictions; the event was held remotely via the Zoom platform and live-streamed on Public-I to extend our audience even further. The benefit of virtual events is the ability to extend reach, and eradicate room capacity limits. This was by far our highest attended Summit to date.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Hazel Chu, opened the summit with a welcome note and Cllr Claire O’Connor, Chair of our Economic Development & Enterprise SPC chaired the event. Commissioner Mairéad McGuinness, European Commissioner for Financial Stability provided the Keynote speech highlighting the focus for financial literacy developments in 2021.

The summit had 4 moderated panel discussions on: Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Employment & Skills; Community & Culture and Climate Action & Sustainability. With contributors from Dublin City Council, the Department of Business Enterprise & Innovation, Enterprise Ireland, IBEC, DCU, Tech Ireland, Smart Dublin, SEAI, Fáilte Ireland, Cisco, CPL, Dalata Hotel Group, Dublin Town, Dublin Regional Skills Forum, LEO Dublin City client VRAI, Wide Awake Communications, the Department of Rural and Community Development, and the Arts Council.
