Competition: A Dublin Christmas
Published on 30th November 2021
Walkinstown Library Christmas Story/Poetry competition proved very popular with our younger folk. Well done to all the children who took part. All entries will be on display in the library during December. The winning entries can be seen below. I think you'll agree we have some budding up and coming writers in Walkinstown!
A Dublin Christmas by Senan Prendergast, Age 8.
On a lovely bright frosty Christmas morning I crunched across an icy lane on the way to church. I saw my breath dance around as steam and rise into the Christmas sky. The melody of Christmas cheer rang in that same air. Hand in hand with the ones I love most. Coming home, the smells of Christmas Dinner around every corner made tummies rumble in anticipation.
Later I sat beside the gorgeous blazing hot fire, looking at the Christmas tree and all its lights winking and shining their way to a new year.
A Dublin Christmas Night by Edith Byrne, age 7.
I’m walking through the streets
With snow on my boots
I can smell chestnuts roasting
And festive fruits
Everyone is smiling
There’s happiness around
Hearts are feeling warm
And there’s frost on the ground
Lights are twinkling everywhere
Beautiful and bright
Dublin city looks so pretty
On this cold, Christmas night
A Dublin Christmas by Chloe Chao, age 9.
Down under the chimney as all the children slept,
In Dublin city a jolly man crept with a big sack on his back.
His name was St. Nickolas and he was full of joy, he loved to give gifts to girls and boys.
He lived in the cold where he wouldn’t mould.
His reindeer were pets and there wasn’t any regrets.
The people in Dublin loved him a lot for he brought gifts for everyone,
Moms, dads, grannies, grandpas, sisters and brothers you name it he gave them all toys and games
He had little helpers who people called little elfers.
The day he comes is December twenty fifth and that’s when you get lots of gifts,
LOL's. Super Mario, Lego, Dinosaurs, Sonic and Nintendo are some of the gifts you can get on Christmas.
So I just want to say ‘Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day!’
Christmas by Krishti Khandelwal
In the morning when you're curled up with your blanket
When you are awake and see the Christmas lights
You rush fast enough to knock off everything near you
Towards the tree that is their decorated with lights to make it bright
But as a little child I know
Hardly children wait for it for more important things.
Most of the time they wait for it for parties
Gifts, cakes, and family meetings
It will always be our favourite festival
Due to the merry and jolly atmosphere
And celebrating that day with your family
With that annual lovely cheer
