The Lord Mayor of Dublin Tom Brabazon has announced that he will present every fire station in Dublin with a bronze plaque to thank them for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Protocol Committee of Dublin City Council approved his proposal at a meeting yesterday.

The Lord Mayor said he wanted to thank Dublin Fire Brigade because of their unstinting and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Dublin.

“Their work at the best of times is not without risk, but right now the risks are higher than normal,” said the Lord Mayor. “They are the extension of the emergency room of our hospitals, the front line soldiers in the war against our microbial enemy.  They are our heroes and the citizens of Dublin want each group of frontline workers to be thanked in their own way to mark their unique contribution.  I am starting with Dublin Fire Brigade as they are under the auspices of Dublin City Council.”

The Lord Mayor is planning to personally visit each individual fire station over the next few weeks to present their plaque.

Dublin Fire Brigade has welcomed the initiative.
