Exploring the Aran Knit - Presentation and Practical Workshop

Walkinstown Library, Saturday 22 February 10.15am-12.45pm  

Vawn Corrigan is the author of Irish Aran: History, Tradition, Fashion ( O Brien Press 2019 ).  She will explore the fascinating stories around Aran, travelling through the years with wonderful images illustrating how the Aran sweater came to be a marker of Irishness across the world. Textile artist Marja Almqvist will demonstrate using her own-designed hat pattern which features a great combination of Aran stitches.  

Music for People with Dementia and their Carers

Walkinstown Library, Wednesday 26 February at 6.30pm 

Music therapist Martin Fahy will explore how to use music in caring for people with dementia and how it can benefit their carers. There will be live music and songs to enhance the understanding of the potential of music. Martin works as a music therapist in the age related unit of Our Lady's Hospice. Audience participation is encouraged.

Forgotten Irish Composers

Join soprano Orla Shannon and pianist Aileen Cahill for an evening of beautiful music by forgotten Irish composers. The programme will feature songsand piano music by composers such as Joan Trimble, Ina Boyle and Rhoda Coghill. Although they were active composers throughout the 20th Century, many of their works remain underperformed today and as artisits they are virtually unknown.
