Help Keep Dublin Safe! Report Bonfire Materials to Dublin City Council
Published on 25th October 2024
Dublin City Council is promoting a safe and enjoyable Halloween for everyone this year. All bonfires are illegal and the Council is asking the public to report any stockpiled material.
If you see waste left out, collected, or if you know of a stockpile, please
- Report ‘bonfire materials’ online on Citizen Hub: https://citizenhub.dublincity.ie/
- Call Dublin City Council on 222 2222 or 679 6186 (out of hours)
We have had crews available on call out of hours on the Northside and Southside to assist Gardaí and remove material from the 19th October.
Dublin City Council removed 493 tonnes of bonfire materials citywide during the Halloween period in 2023 in response to over 489 reports of stockpiling from the public.
Business owners and residents are reminded, that you are responsible for your waste and if it is found not to have been disposed of correctly, you could be held liable.
Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) is not in a position to take reports or collect material. However, by increasing awareness DFB hopes to reduce the number of injuries and incidents associated with bonfires and the misuse of fireworks.
If you find yourself at or near an unauthorised firework/bonfire event:
- Never consume drugs or alcohol when using fireworks.
- Make sure children stand at a safe distance.
- Keep everyone well back from the display/fire.
- Never return to a lit firework. Wait 20 minutes and place in a bucket of water.
- Never throw fireworks.

The excellent cooperation received from An Garda Síochána is essential to the success of these operations.
