Momentum in North East Inner City must be built on – Lord Mayor

Lord Mayor Welcomes North East Inner City Progress Report 2025.

"The publication of the North East Inner City Progress Report (NEIC) is clear evidence that the commitment to create a brighter future for the area is delivering real and visible improvements for local communities," said the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam.

Speaking at the launch, the Lord Mayor said the annual report demonstrates the value of sustained investment, strong partnership and continued Government focus, alongside significant delivery on the ground by Dublin City Council and local agencies.

“This is the eighth progress report published since the initiative was established, and that consistency matters. Real change in communities does not happen overnight, it happens through steady work, year after year, with sustained a commitment to local delivery."

“The Mulvey Report in 2017 set out a vision of creating a brighter future. What this progress report shows is that this future is being built in practical ways that people can see in their streets, their schools and their local services.”

The Lord Mayor acknowledged the continued support of the Government and highlighted the central role of Dublin City Council in delivering improvements across the area.

“Dublin City Council is playing a key role in improving the physical environment, supporting community facilities and working with residents to strengthen our neighbourhoods. These visible changes are helping to restore confidence and pride across the North East Inner City.”

The progress report highlights a wide range of achievements delivered during 2025, including:

  • Enhanced community safety through targeted Garda operations and expanded Community Garda clinics
  • Public realm improvements delivered by Dublin City Council, including upgraded footpaths, improved lighting and new planting on Talbot Street
  • The refurbishment and reopening of Liberty Park, providing a modern and welcoming space for local children and families

The Lord Mayor said the report reflects not only improved services and infrastructure, but growing confidence within the community.

“What stands out is the combination of national investment and local delivery. Safer streets, better parks, improved public spaces, stronger supports for young people and expanded health services are making a real difference to people in the community."

“The North East Inner City shows what can be achieved when Government, Dublin City Council, local services and communities work together. It reflects the vision of a living city, an active city and an engaged city."

“The challenges facing the North East Inner City developed over many years and will take time to fully address. But this report shows real progress and strong momentum."

“The commitment made in 2017 was to create a brighter future. That future is now taking shape, street by street, park by park and neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Our responsibility now is to stay the course and continue delivering for the communities of the North East Inner City.”
