History and Architecture
Dublin City Hall was built between 1769 and 1779 and was one of the first examples of neoclassical architecture in Ireland. It was first known as the Royal Exchange where people exchanged Irish Punt and English Sterling.
The building became a thriving meeting place for the city's tradesmen. Later, in 1851, it was renamed City Hall when it was bought by Dublin Corporation. The building has been the site of lively Council meetings, famous orations and dangerous rebellions.
All of which happened against a backdrop of beautiful 18th century architecture, striking statues and intricate artwork.
