City Library Project: What's Happening
The demolition of the Amhraclann at the rear of the Georgian buildings has commenced. The new City Library will be located on this site. Barnmore Demolitions were awarded the contract for demolitions. They are also responsible for ground surveys to the area following demolition and any archaeological investigation that may be required in advance of the commencement of the construction of the new City Library.
Great care will be taken during demolitions to monitor and protect both the Hugh Lane Gallery and the Georgian buildings of the former Colaiste Mhuire. The projected end date of this demolition phase of the project is Spring 2023.
A Senior Resident Engineer has been appointed to supervise the works.
A new multi-disciplinary design team has been appointed.
The programme for completion of the detailed design works is approximately one year with a commencement date in early 2023.
Procurement of the Contractor will take approximately six months.
Construction will take approximately thirty two months with completion expected in 2027.
