Kilbarrack Road to Oscar Traynor Road Walking and Cycling Interim Scheme
Dublin City Council is proposing to provide improved walking and cycling facilities along Kilbarrack Road, Tonlegee Road and Oscar Traynor Road
Dublin City Council will deliver the Active Travel Network through a series of infrastructural projects over the next nine years. The Active Travel Network will grow from its existing 10km to a connected network of 310km across the city. This will offer a safer, inclusive and connected Active Travel Network that is sustainable. These projects will take some time to plan and design. In the meantime, it is proposed to design and implement interim schemes on these routes where it is feasible.
The Kilbarrack Road to Oscar Traynor Road Scheme has been identified as a suitable route for Interim measures. It will deliver a 5km cycle route along Kilbarrack Rd, Tonglegee Rd and Oscar Traynor Rd between Howth Rd/ Dublin Rd junction and Oscar Traynor Rd/Barryscourt Rd junction. Improved cycle lane provision at the larger junctions will be provided in Phase 2 later in 2023.
The scheme will provide quality, protected cycling facilities to cater for all ages and abilities. It will facilitate a more active lifestyle for all ages bringing multiple benefits for physical and mental wellbeing.
Key Features of the scheme;
- Throughout the scheme, existing footpaths and driveways will not be affected. Junction’s corner radii will be tightened using road markings and bollards.
- The existing un-protected cycle lanes along Kilbarrack Rd will be now be protected, separating cyclists from traffic by way of flexible Kerbs and Bollards.
- A new segregated cycle track will be introduced on both sides of Tonlegee Road, separating cyclists from traffic by way of flexible Kerbs and Bollards.
- A new segregated cycle track will be introduced on both sides of Oscar Traynor Road, separating cyclists from traffic by way of flexible Kerbs and Bollards.
