Ranelagh Village Interim Scheme Phase 1
The permanent Sandyford Clonskeagh to Charlemont Street Pedestrian and Cyclist Improvement Scheme will take some time to plan and design and therefore, it is proposed to design and implement interim measures along the 650m of the Village section of the scheme from Woodstock Gardens to the Ranelagh Luas Bridge. The interim measures will improve accessibility and provide a safer environment for cycling. The new facilities will cater for all ages and abilities, to meet existing and future demand.
Project Description
This Interim Scheme will use light segregation measures such as flexible kerbs and bollards to provide temporary protection to cyclists from vehicle traffic. The scheme will deliver the following:
· Provide segregated cycle facilities of 650 metres through the Village .
· Provide a Bus Stop upgrade with an Island Bus Stop layout in Ranelagh Village.
· Reduction in traffic lane width
· Along Ranelagh Road the existing loading bay in the Village will be maintained
· Retain all existing disabled parking facilities.
The project will encourage walking and cycling in the area by providing improved facilities and contribute to a reduction in transport emissions in line with the objectives of the Climate Action Plan by encouraging a modal shift to active travel and public transport use.
The interventions will entail the reallocation of road space to pedestrians and cyclists, the installation of traffic management measures such as new traffic signs and road markings, protection using kerbs, the extinguishment and reorganisation of some parking bays and ancillary works.
The work is schedule to commence in Q1 2025
