Roadworks and Construction Updates
Construction of Phase 3 of the Royal Canal Greenway Scheme from North Strand Road to Phibsborough Road will take place between 2023 and 2025. Learn about planned roadworks and traffic management arrangements.
Royal Canal Greenway Phase 3 – Phased Opening Update – 9th July 2025
Dublin City Council is pleased to advise that the greenway will be opened to the public on a phased basis as follows:
Section 1: Cross Guns Bridge (Prospect Road) to Binns Bridge (Dorset Street Lower) – Open
- This section partially opened on Friday 19th July 2024 and fully opened on Sunday 23rd March 2025.
Section 2: Binns Bridge (Dorset Street Lower) to Bloody Sunday Bridge (Russell Street) – Closed
- This section is currently expected to open in late August 2025. A precise opening date will be given closer to the time.
Section 3: Bloody Sunday Bridge (Russell Street) to Clarke’s Bridge (Summerhill Parade) – Closed
- This section is currently expected to open on Friday 18th July 2025.
Section 4: Clarke’s Bridge (Summerhill Parade) to Newcomen Bridge (North Strand Road) – Open
- This section opened on Friday 20th June 2025.
In advance of the opening of Section 3, the new toucan crossing signals at Bloody Sunday Bridge are scheduled be switched on at approximately 11:00am on Tuesday 15th July 2025.
Snagging works will occasionally take place on all sections following their opening. Please exercise caution in the vicinity of these works.
Royal Canal Greenway Phase 3 – Construction Update – 4th July 2025
Work to install and join fibre optic cables along the greenway is scheduled to start on Monday 7th July, focusing initially on the section between Cross Guns Bridge and Binns Bridge. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to expect construction plant and localised restrictions along this section of greenway for up to two weeks. Following this, the installation crews will move on to the remaining sections of the greenway. Dublin City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these works.
