Continuous Footpaths at Side Roads
As part of the Active Travel Network, we installed continuous footpaths at minor side roads across Dublin. They give priority to footpath users.
Continuous footpaths are being provided across minor side roads across the city. The paving of these footpaths is level across the junction and establishes priority for pedestrians and wheelchair users. This improves both their safety and convenience.
Whether turning into or out of these side roads, vehicles and cyclists must yield to pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.

If a driver wants to turn down the side road:
- They must yield to passing cyclists.
- Then to footpath users.
- Both drivers and cyclists must wait for the footpath users to pass.
- They can then make the turn with the cyclist going first, followed by the vehicle.
