Flashing Amber Arrows

Back to Public Safety Guidance for New Road Features

We have installed flashing amber arrows at junctions across Dublin to remind drivers that cyclists have priority over turning vehicles. This is how they work.

Dublin City Council is rolling out flashing amber arrows for left turning vehicles at junctions throughout the city. This aims to improve the safety for cyclists.

Cyclists always have priority over turning vehicles when travelling straight through a junction. Flashing amber arrows aim to remind drivers of this.

How to Navigate Flashing Amber Arrows

Attention drivers, before making a turn, you must:

  • Yield to approaching cyclists.
  • Give cyclists time to clear the junction.
  • Then proceed to make your turn, when it’s safe to do so.
