UNESCO CITY OF LITERATURE - A PROUD DAY FOR DUBLIN!

Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Gerry Breen, in the company of the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Mary Hanafin T.D., formally announced Dublin’s designation as UNESCO City of Literature, one of only four in the world.

The announcement took place in the forecourt of the iconic Grand Canal Theatre, Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2 at 11.00am on Monday 26th July. A number of luminaries from the spheres of Arts and Literature also attended the event.

Major Roadworks at Chapelizod Bridge – 3rd to 31st August 2010

Dublin City Council will be carrying out preparatory works during the month of August for the installation of pedestrian footbridges on the Anna Livia Bridge over the River Liffey at Chapelizod.

Traffic Management for this work will involve the operation of a signal-controlled shuttle system over the bridge.

There may be significant delays to traffic in the area during this period. Please use alternative routes (M50 and N4).

Further disruption for shorter periods is envisaged in September and October during the installation of the footbridges.

Cllr Clare Byrne, representing Dublin’s Lord Mayor,  launched Ireland’s first Local Authority ‘Rent-to-Buy’ scheme on Tuesday 20th July.

The Scheme will consist of 91 units in total for rent at three locations in the city. The other locations are at Prospect Hill, Glasnevin with 64 properties, and Park View, Dublin 11 with 11 properties. The 91 units comprise a mixture of one, two and three bed roomed apartments and duplexes.

Waste Collection Calendar

Dublin City Council have launched a new waste collection portal for householders to find out the waste collection dates for their home.


Please note: Dublin City Council’s black and brown bin waste collection service will remain unchanged on Bank Holiday Monday.

Green bins which would normally be collected Monday 2nd August will be collected on Saturday 31st July.

  • Housing Aid for Older People
