Irish Times review of DUBLIN CULTURE- Alan Reeve’s iconic image of a gathering of literary and ‘arty’ Dublin in the back-lounge of The Palace Bar in Fleet Street in June 1940.
JoyceStagers Val O’Donnell and Tim Casey celebrate the gathering of 37 of Ireland’s foremost poets, writers, artists, and journalists featured in Alan Reeve’s famous caricature.
Some of those captured in the drawing included Patrick Kavanagh, Flann O’Brien, Austin Clarke, F.R. Higgins, Brinsley McNamara, Francis McManus, and ‘Bertie’ Smyllie ( Editor, Irish Times )
The event will feature a discussion on the history and background to the drawing itself, stories associated with some of the featured writers, accompanied by readings from a selection of their well-known works.
