A World Of Its Own: Guinness brewing mid-20th Century
Times & Dates
In the middle decades of the twentieth century, the Guinness family was thriving, as the two main branches – brewing and banking – made such enormous profits that the generation in charge of both businesses in that period had huge personal fortunes.
The employees who were working to create those fortunes were certainly not prospering to anything like the same extent. Nevertheless, in the 1950s and later decades, for those men and women who got jobs in the Brewery, the security of their employment was very welcome.
Dublin City Council Historian-in-Residence for Dublin North-West Dr. Mary Muldowney will outline working conditions in the Brewery in the middle decades of the 20th century.
