Bealtaine 2009

Photo of people celebrating Creativity in Older Age All Over Dublin!Dublin City Council Arts Office is delighted to bring to you a range of over 42 art events, readings, performances, film screenings and exhibitions to celebrate creativity in older age all over Dublin. This year’s festival has grown considerably through partnerships with arts specialists such as Coisceim Dance Theatre and Poetry Ireland and collaborations with local community organisations and will involve thousands of participants in events in every art form.

Taking its name from the ancient Celtic festival celebrating springtime, Bealtaine celebrates renewal, creativity and growth in ageing.  Bealtaine is coordinated by Age and Opportunity – the national organisation working to promote greater participation by older people in society.

A host of free activities will take place in the North Central Area of Dublin City including Opera Gala in St Anne’s Park, Dublin 3, Dance in Donnycarney, Dublin 5, Art Route from Donaghmede and Local Talent Show in Dublin 17.  Don’t miss Ulick O’Connor in The Red Stables, St Anne’s Park on Wednesday 13th May at 12pm along with other readings by James McAuley and John Quinn.

The festival is part of Dublin City Council’s Arts office extended arts service to city communities. There really is something for everyone with a range of opportunities to get into the creative summer spirit.
