This image gallery presents a historical survey of some of the libraries that have served Dublin’s citizens from 1884 until the present day. The idea at the heart of the public library system is simple, enlightened, and noble: anyone can have access to education, information, and knowledge. As the song so simply and eloquently put it: ‘Libraries gave us power’.
