A Special Collection for Little Readers – with Health in mind
Published on 21st August 2025

We understand how important it is to support parents and caregivers. Dublin City Libraries have developed a wonderful collection of books specifically for children who are in the NICU in the hospital. Parents are encouraged to read these books to their children while they are in the hospital. This collection was specially selected by the librarian in the Rotunda hospital and is provided by Dublin City Libraries.
We want to encourage parents to continue to read books when their children come home from hospital and are building up their immune systems.
Dublin City Libraries have stocked a special collection of books in Central Library, Charleville Mall Library, Cabra Library, Phibsboro library, Drumcondra library, Kevin St library and Walkinstown Library.
This collection is kept as clean as possible so that parents can relax and enjoy reading books for their children! To help us maintain their condition these books are not kept on shelves with our general stock, listed in the public catalogue and cannot be reserved.
One of the aims of the collection is to reassure parents that we have books in stock for them specifically, as sterile as possible if they are nervous about infection etc. We hope that by supporting parents to borrow this collection that they will be able to enjoy everything else that the libraries have to offer.
