Florence Grace is the main character of this novel. The novel charts the life of Florence. Florrie grew up on the moors of Cornwall. Due to her rural environment, she develops an interest in nature, the natural world and is very intuitive and connected to nature.

Florrie is a likeable and endearing character who walks her own path, regardless of what others may think, believe or say.

Florence Grace book cover

Florrie encounters many challenges on her life path. It is her strength of character and resilience which shines through, as do her willingness to help people, no matter the circumstances. These attributes are what sets Florrie in high regard.

This novel draws the reader into Florrie’s world. We empathise with her predicament during her youth, we marvel at her resilience and courage of spirit as her circumstances change and admire her kindness, even when people in her environment are acting contrary to this.

Florrie is a true hero. The following are two quotations from the novel which really resonates with me:

1.    ‘Life has a way of hunting you out when the time is right; nature’s timing, mind, not yours’

2.    ‘Just when things seemed blackest and worst – something would come to carry you through, usually through a series of the most unlikely events – so it was for me’

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it both resonated with me and uplifted me. Five stars!
