Announcement of Community Climate Action Programme Strand 2 – successful applicants Dublin City

Published on 29th May 2026

The successful applicants for Strand 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme have been announced, with 53 community groups set to benefit from funding totalling €2.17 million. This represents an increase of almost €250,000 on Strand 1 and supports the inclusion of four additional community groups in the programme.

Welcoming the announcement, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam, said, "One of the great strengths of Dublin is the pride people take in their communities and their willingness to come together to make a positive difference. Through my theme of Celebrating Dublin, I have sought to recognise the people, groups and organisations that make our city such a special place to live, work and raise a family. The Community Climate Action Programme is a wonderful example of communities leading from the front. From sports clubs and residents' groups to environmental organisations and local volunteers, these projects demonstrate how climate action can be delivered at a neighbourhood level while improving the places we call home. I want to congratulate all 53 successful applicants and thank them for their commitment, ambition and leadership. Together, they are helping to build a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Dublin for future generations."

At a launch event in Cherry Orchard Football Club were Councillor Vincent Jackson, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O'Brien, Cherry Orchard Football Club Committee and a large selection of club facility users. Opening the event Councillor Jackson stated, “The Community Climate Action Programme has been a key support to help grassroots initiatives take place that enable ordinary citizens to implement climate related projects that enhance their local area”.

Announcing the successful fund applicants, Minister O’Brien said, "Communities across Ireland are leading the way in climate action, delivering practical projects that reduce emissions, strengthen local resilience and improve quality of life. I am delighted to announce the successful projects under this latest phase of the Community Climate Action Programme, and to provide a further €2.6 million to ensure even more of these ambitious community projects can move forward. This programme empowers communities to take meaningful local action on climate change, while also contributing to our national climate and energy goals. The scale of interest and quality of applications received demonstrates the commitment of communities nationwide to building a cleaner, more sustainable future."

The announcement forms part of the Government’s continued investment in community-led climate action through the Climate Action Fund (CAF), with almost €27 million (over €26.9 million) being made available to Local Authorities, to support communities building low-carbon, sustainable futures.

Strand 2 builds on the very successful and popular Strand 1 programme which saw community groups and clubs from across the city roll up their sleeves and implement projects that included installing solar panels, bike stands, building food and nature gardens, repurposing clothes and capturing rainwater for gardens.

All successful projects under Strand 2 will be communicated to by Dublin City Council’s Climate Team in the coming week to get the wheels in motion.
