Get your dog microchipped for free!

Published on 3rd June 2026

Dublin City Council will this weekend hold a free dog microchip clinic, the 3rd such event in the past 12 months.

Due to popular demand, the Council is joining forces with the North-East Inner City initiative and the Irish Blue Cross to provide the service.

The event will take place in the car park of Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Sean McDermott St this Saturday, 6 June, from 12pm to 2pm.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Ray McAdam said, “This is a practical, free and important service for dog owners in Dublin. Microchipping gives every dog a better chance of being safely reunited with their family if they are lost or stolen, and it also supports responsible dog ownership across our city. I am delighted that Dublin City Council, the North East Inner City initiative and the Irish Blue Cross are working together to bring this clinic directly into the community. I would encourage dog owners to come along, avail of the service and make sure their dog is protected.”

There will also be animal welfare checks and information on responsible dog ownership.

It is a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped.

A microchip is a small electronic chip, around the size of a grain of rice, which is implanted under the dog’s skin. It contains a unique number that can be read by a scanner, and connects the dog to its owner in the event it ever goes missing or is stolen.

So why not come along and get your dog microchipped for free!
