Lord Mayor of Dublin Joins European Partners to Celebrate Europe Day

Dublin City Council is proud to collaborate with the European Commission Representation in Ireland (EC REP), the European Parliament Liaison Office (EPLO), and other partners to mark Europe Week 2026 with a series of vibrant celebrations across the city just 59 Days before the start of Ireland’s EU Presidency.
 
From 7 to 12 May, Dublin will showcase its European spirit through flag displays, digital promotions, and community engagement, culminating in a high-profile Europe Day reception on Friday, 8 May, hosted by the EC REP and EPLO.
 
The event in Europe House, attended by EU Ambassadors, Lord Mayor Councillor Ray McAdam, and invited dignitaries including Minister of State for European Affairs Thomas Byrne TD and EU Commissioner Michael McGrath, will highlight Dublin’s role in fostering European unity.
 
Key Highlights of Dublin City Council's Europe Week include:

-EU & Member State Flags Along the Liffey– A striking display of European flags now line the river, symbolising Dublin’s connection to the EU

-Digital Boards Across the City – Screens will feature Europe Week messaging, reinforcing Dublin’s readiness for Ireland’s upcoming EU Presidency in 2026

-IlluminationsDublin City Hall is lit in EU colours, joining Iveagh House (DFA) in a citywide celebration

Ahead of his address to invited dignitaries, Lord Mayor Councillor Ray McAdam said: “Europe Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Dublin’s place at the heart of Europe. Today and into next week we’re showcasing our city’s enthusiasm for the EU and our preparations for the 2026 Presidency. I’m delighted to join EU Ambassadors and partners in marking this important occasion.”
