Making Dublin City Council a safe place for animals is at the heart of the Animal Welfare Unit's work. Our staff work with schools and communities across the city to prevent animal abuse, neglect and mistreatment.

School Visits

Our wardens and inspectors visit primary and secondary school classrooms throughout the city giving animal welfare talks to students. We teach them about responsible dog ownership, pet care and how to recognise signs of mistreatment and neglect.

Community Events

Every year, the Animal Welfare Unit attends a selection of community events to give talks and spread the word about responsible pet ownership. Watch out for us at the annual Rose Festival in St. Anne’s Park and at the Finglas Fright Night Halloween festival. We also organise events to mark World Animal Welfare Day every October.

Training Seminars

Our wardens and inspectors provide training seminars for all bodies engaged in animal welfare. They distribute relevant animal welfare information with the aim of getting more people involved in the prevention of cruelty and neglect of animals. If you would like to arrange training for your organisation or community group, contact us below.

Contact the Animal Welfare Unit

The Animal Welfare Unit is always open to opportunities to educate animal owners and increase awareness of the signs of animal mistreatment. If you would like one of our wardens to visit your school or community group, contact us below.
