To realise our goal of becoming an animal-friendly city, we need the public to highlight cases of abuse and neglect as they arise. Our team of dedicated wardens, inspectors and office staff are ready to listen and help.

We are available seven days a week by dialling 01 222 6060 and by email at [email protected]. We are also active on social media through our Animal Welfare Facebook page. Here, we regularly post photos of the stray dogs that have been taken to our shelter, so this should be the first point of reference if you have lost your pet.

When to Contact the Animal Welfare Unit

The Animal Welfare Unit is responsible for dealing with calls and emails regarding:

  • Reports of stray or lost dogs.
  • Reports of loose or tethered horses.
  • Reports of animal abuse, mistreatment or neglect.
  • Reports of dog attacks.
  • Dog surrenders.
  • Requests to change the details of existing dog or horse licences.

However, we welcome all calls and queries regarding animal welfare. While we specialise in the welfare of dogs and horses, we work with partners like the DSPCA and the Irish Wildlife Trust to support the welfare of all animals in the city. Get in touch and we will connect you with appropriate assistance.

If your call is not answered, leave a voicemail with your name, contact number and a short message and we will respond the next working day.

Please note that if you need to pay a fee or fine associated with reclaiming your dog from a shelter, you should call 01 222 2222 to make a card payment. Our out-of-hours phone line cannot take payments.
