Our Partners in Animal Welfare
Learn about the different organisations and agencies that the Animal Welfare Unit work with.
We work with a wide range of organisations to support the rights of animals throughout Dublin city and enforce animal welfare legislation. Our partners include other local authorities, non-profit organisations, animal charities, veterinary groups, government departments and more.
Together, we endeavour to ensure that no animal suffers. In many cases, we work with our partner organisations to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals. Through our partners, we also provide a neutering service.

Our partnership with An Garda Síochána allows us to enforce the law. As a licensing authority, Dublin City Council is responsible for the enforcement of all aspects of the legislation relating to the treatment of dogs and horses. We often run joint operations with An Garda Síochána to investigate reports. We also visit parks together to encourage responsible dog ownership and compliance with the law.
While we specialise in the welfare of dogs and horses, we also work with partners like Dublin Zoo, the DSPCA, the Irish Wildlife Trust and the OPW to support the welfare of all animals in the city. If a member of the public reports any kind of animal in distress, we will connect them with the appropriate assistance.
We also offer financial contributions to organisations that mirror our ethos and adhere to the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare framework.
