Fire safety for the community

Making Dublin safe from fires and other emergencies is at the heart of all that we do. Dublin Fire Brigade have developed various programmes to shift focus from responding to fires to involving the community in the prevention of fires.

If you would like a fire officer to give a talk at your school, work or community centre, please T. (01) 222 4066 or E. [email protected]

Our community fire safety programme includes:

Schools programme

Every year fire fighters visit all primary schools in the city and county, giving a fire safety talk to all third class students.

The students are given a study pack to take home which includes a home fire safety audit and a letter for parents. The aim is for the students to bring the fire safety message into the home.

Community fire safety talks and visits

Fire officers give fire safety talks to various groups in the community and in businesses and distribute relevant fire safety information.

Fire safety art competition

Each year we run a primary school art competition for schools in the greater Dublin area. This competition aims to encourage children to learn about fire safety at school in a fun way and to carry the fire safety message home.

From the entries, twelve winners are chosen. These students win a prize for themselves and their school and are featured in the next year's fire safety calendar, which is distributed to all schools.

Fire Safety Week

Fire Safety Week is held across the island of Ireland annually in autumn in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

During Fire Safety Week you might hear and see newspaper advertisements, television advertisements, meet and greets with fire officers at shopping centres around Dublin and hear radio talks on fire safety.

The prize giving ceremony for the winners of the Fire Safety Art Competition is also held at the Mansion House during this week.

Open days in fire stations

At various times of the year fire stations across Dublin open their doors to local communities and encourage people to visit; to see through demonstrations and exhibits what the fire brigade and our partners in the other emergency services do.

Keep an eye on our website and Twitter for the dates, locations and times of the open days in your local station.
