Portland Square Project

Dublin City Council’s Active Travel Programme Office are proposing improvements to Portland Square as part of the proposed North Circular Road (Dorset Street Lower to Amiens Street) Active Travel Scheme. 

The Portland Square project is at the early stages of design. In February 2026, our project team met with local residents to gather their first thoughts and ideas about how the square could be improved.

We’re now using this feedback to help shape and develop the next stage of the design process. When the design has been developed to a suitable stage, further engagement with the local community will be carried out.

The below image shows Portland Square on the map in relation to the North Circular Road the Royal Canal Greenway (North Strand Rd to Phibsborough Rd) Active Travel Schemes. Portland Square is between these two schemes. The image also shows that Portland Place Park is being developed as part of the Royal Canal Greenway.
