Portobello to Blackhorse Bridge Phase 1 - Goldenbridge Walk

This new scheme aims to improve the existing walking and cycling route along the northern towpath of Grand Canal between Suir Road and Blackhorse Bridge. It is currently in the Concept Development and Option Selection phase.

This scheme begins at Blackhorse Bridge, continues along Goldenbridge Walk on the northern towpath of the Grand Canal, and ends at Suir Road at its junction with O’Leary Road. Improvements may include:

  • path resurfacing
  • drainage improvements and
  • replacement of access gates that do not meet the current accessibility standards

This scheme is Phase 1 of the wider Portobello to Blackhorse Active Travel Scheme which forms part of Dublin City Council's 314km Active Travel Network. To see where it fits into this citywide network, you can view our interactive GIS map.

The scheme will provide quality, protected walking and cycling facilities to cater for everyone. It will facilitate a more active lifestyle for all ages, bringing multiple benefits for physical and mental wellbeing.
