Energy Efficiency and BER Certificates
If you are constructing, redeveloping, selling or renting a property, it must have a Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate. Find out how to apply for one.
The Building Control authority is responsible for ensuring that all buildings being constructed or redeveloped comply with Building Regulations. This includes the requirement that all buildings have a BER certificate.
If a commencement notice is submitted for a project which does not have a BER certificate, we can enforce compliance with these regulations.
What Is a BER Certificate?
A BER certificate indicates your building's energy performance. It is similar to the energy label for household appliances. The certificate rates buildings on a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills. G-rated are the least energy efficient.
