Energy Efficiency and BER Certificates
If you are constructing, redeveloping, selling or renting a property, it must have a Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate. Find information on how to apply for a BER certificate.
The Building Control authority is responsible for ensuring that all buildings being constructed or redeveloped comply with Building Regulations. This includes the requirement that all buildings have a BER certificate.
If a commencement notice is submitted for a project which does not have a BER certificate, we can enforce compliance with these regulations.
What is a BER certificate?
A BER certificate indicates your building's energy performance. It is similar to the energy label for household appliances. The certificate rates buildings on a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills. G-rated are the least energy efficient.
