Digital Safety: Setting up Parental Controls on Children's Devices

As technology evolves, so do the challenges we face as parents, keeping up with digital trends and supporting our children and teenagers to stay safe online.  This workshop aims to empower parents with information and strategies to strike a balance between protecting and monitoring while also and fostering trust and open communication.

Please bring along the device you want to set parental controls on if possible.

The workshop will be facilitated by an experienced instructor from MetaTech and will cover the following: 

  • Understanding device-specific parental controls (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS)
  • Setting restrictions on app usage, in-app purchases and screen time
  • Safe browsing options and filtering explicit content
  • Monitoring online activity and discussing digital responsibility with children
  • Parental controls on gaming consoles (Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch)
  • Safe streaming settings on YouTube, Netflix and other platforms

 

Skills for Life is a new national programme available through every public library in Ireland. It offers free workshops, events, and resources to help adults build everyday skills, from going online and managing money to staying healthy and living more sustainably.
