If you are struggling to pay your weekly rent charge, please contact the Rent Assessment section on 01 222 2211 to make sure your household details and rent assessment are correct. You are required to provide up-to-date income details for all members of your household and to notify the Rents Section if there have been any changes to your household.

If your rent assessment is correct and you are still struggling to pay your weekly rent charge you can contact MABS (Money Advice and Budgeting Services) on 0818 072 000 or at www.mabs.ie . MABS provide independent and confidential help and advice on all money management and debt issues.

If you feel you require additional supports due to exceptional circumstances you can make an application for consideration under the Differential Rent Scheme’s Hardship Clause. Please email [email protected] for more information.

Failure to pay your weekly rent charge is a breach of your Tenancy Agreement. If you fall into rent arrears, you will be contacted by an Executive Housing Officer and you will be given an opportunity to enter a manageable repayment arrangement. If you fail to maintain this repayment arrangement, a Tenancy Warning will be issued to you, and legal action will be taken to recover your home.

If legal action is taken, you will be summonsed to appear in Court. The Court may grant Dublin City Council a Possession Order to take back the property. At this stage and to prevent the property being repossessed, Dublin City Council will require full payment of all rent arrears owed.

If your home is repossessed, you and your family will be referred to the Dublin Region Homeless Executive who will offer you advice and assistance. They can be contacted on 1800 707 707 or at www.homelessdublin.ie
