Reading is a leisure activity!
Learning is a two-way street
Libraries are always learning from the feedback of their members on ways to improve their services and suitably meet their needs. Not only does this mean sourcing literature, but also providing inclusive and accessible services.

Our libraries also play a crucial role in improving digital inclusion. People in low-income households, mobile-only users (without a home internet connection), people aged 65 and over, early school leavers, and people with disabilities. Libraries are often the only place to go online to access essential services and connect with friends and family.
Public Libraries are a lifeline for people in the community who face social isolation. They provide a place to go and be a part of the community and with this comes all the health benefits of staying active and socialising.
Libraries are popular with older people. Age friendly champions in each branch make sure that your visit goes smoothly. Daily newspapers, large print and audio collections, age friendly trolleys, reading glasses, accessible spaces. Age Action also facilitate computer classes.
Most importantly the library is a social outlet, with groups and activities, a space to make connections and chat, and to feel part of something.
We have services and events that support Dublin Age Friendly City. Read about Age Friendly Libraries to find out what is on offer. You can check our Library Events.
Older people may be interested in our book clubs, film clubs, knitting groups, creative writing groups, exhibitions and lectures. Check your local library for the range of services and activities provided.
Home delivery and block loan service
You can avail of a home delivery service provided by our Library in the Community section. This service can be used by individuals. Ring us at 01 222 4770 or email us at [email protected]
Institutions (such as crèches, sheltered accommodation for older people); isolated individuals in the community; people with a visual impairment; and people with disabilities can use the block loan service. This type of loan is tailored to individual requirements; number of items, length of loan period and type of material provided (audio books, large print books, paperbacks etc.).
Block loans can also be arranged in branch libraries. Contact your local library for details.
