Ireland Reads is a campaign to get the whole country reading during February in the lead up to a national day of reading on Saturday, February 22.

Dublin City Library and Archive is pleased to present the annual Sir John T. Gilbert Commemorative Lecture which will be held on 29th May 2024 with a talk by Professor Jane Ohlmeyer entitled, ‘The lived experiences of women in early modern Dublin’.

The novels nominated and shortlisted for the Award will be available for readers to borrow from Dublin City Libraries and from public libraries around Ireland, or can be borrowed as eBooks and some as eAudiobooks on the free Borrowbox app, available to all public library users.

One thing that has become really clear from talking to children is the huge role that reading plays in fostering their interest in history. Often reading historical fiction is a kind of gateway into exploring a particular historical period or topic. In response to this, I co-designed with a group of very dedicated young readers of history, a monthly history book group for children.
